Are the Civitas internships paid and what does the internship program fee cover?

Civitas internships in Warsaw, Poland are unpaid unless a host internship organization indicates otherwise.

The program fee covers human and material costs that Collegium Civitas bears while developing and maintaining the recruitment, admission and internship infrastructure, including websites, advertisement, outreach to potential internship organizations, correspondence with perspective applicants and host organizations, review, and acceptance of applications, initiating and monitoring internship placement process, work of a program coordinator and internship director. In addition, the program fee covers specific features built into the program as described here.

 What knowledge and skills do I need to have to participate in the Civitas Internship Program?

Civitas expects its students to have inquisitive minds, critical thinking, desire to learn in classroom and professional setting, interest in the region and/or the internship area. Additional practical experience is not required although welcome.

Do I need to know Polish language to intern in Warsaw through Civitas program? No. Civitas arranges English-speaking internships in Warsaw that corresponds to students’ interests, skills and experience.
What if Citivas is not able to find for me an internship that corresponds with my interest/experience?

Through the faculty and friends of Collegium, Civitas has an extensive network of professional contacts with a number of public, private and non-governmental organizations in Warsaw. In addition, Civitas has at least a month after your application is accepted to the program and before your expected time of arrival in Warsaw to make a successful internship placement. Therefore, Civitas is confident that it will be able to find an internship that will match your interest and skills.

Do I need to apply for a Polish visa to participate in the program?

If you are a United States or a Canadian citizen you do not need to apply for visa if you plan to stay in Poland less than three months. If you apply for an internship program that extends over a three month period Civitas will issue you an invitation letter that you will submit together with your visa application to a Polish consulate in your country. Does Civitas or GEL offer any scholarship?

Unfortunately, Civitas and GEL do not offer scholarships at this moment. Students who take at least 6 credit hours (or 12 ECTS) during a Civitas internship program are usually eligible to apply for and receive financial aid from their universities. Students are encouraged to contact thier study abroad/financial aid offices to inquire about any available financial aid that can cover the program fee as well as look for other outside funds.

What will happen on the day I arrive in Warsaw?

Civitas representatives will do their utmost to meet you in person at the airport, railway or bus stations and take you to the reserved hotel or to a rented apartment and provide you with a welcome package.

Can I stay with my family/friends in Warsaw while participating in the Civitas summer internship program?

Yes, you can. You will be expected to inform Civitas about your housing plans in advance.

Will I need to buy my own medical insurance while in Warsaw, Poland?

If available, you are encouraged to bring with you your own medical insurance particularly if you plan to travel outside Poland. Before you depart you should check with your insurance company its insurance policy coverage for Central Europe. Regardless whether you have your own insurance or not Civitas will buy you a basic medical insurance package valid in Poland for a duration of your program.
