Students' testimonials:

2011 Summer Internship Placement with the European Academy of Diplomacy

The internship has surpassed my initial expectations. My placement helped me gain knowledge, develop skills and experience that I know will be beneficial to me in the future. I will never forget friends I have made and all the fond memories we have shared together. Getting on that plane to Poland has been one of the best decisions I have ever made as this has been the best summer of my life.

2011 Summer Internship Placement with the Constitutional Tribunal

The Civitas summer in Warsaw was better than I could have imagined. I was able to gain real knowledge of international law, work with leaders in Polish legal field, and make great friends. It was the perfect way to turn theory into practice and evaluate my career choice, while having an amazing summer traveling and experiencing Europe.

Samantha McGrath, J.D. Candidate '13, The George Washingon University School of Law

2011 Summer Internship Placement with Rural Development Foundation

My time in Poland with Civitas was an eye-opening experience I could have not gained anywhere else. Poland is beautiful country with a rich history unlike any other; everywhere you go you can learn something new. I came with small interest in foreign policy but through the people I met, the conversations I had, and the places I saw, I now have a greater passion and confidence to pursue a career in international relations.

2010 Summer Internship Placement with the Warsaw Business Journal

I really enjoyed working at the Warsaw Business Journal (WBJ). I was surprised at how much responsibility I was given in terms of researching and writing. WBJ asked me to publish at least one or two online blogs a day. I felt as though I got a real journalism internship experience in that I learned how to write and construct relevant news stories.  The work environment was very supportive and the staff seemed to go to great lengths to share ideas and information when I was doing online editing and  try to help me improve my skills and grow as a journalist. I really appreciated the professionalism of all the WBJ editors and writers and their respect for my efforts and work product. One of the stories I wrote for the online section was actually published in the print paper, which comes out every two weeks.  I learned a lot from this internship about what it takes to be a business journalist, not just in Poland but in any city in the world.

2009 Summer Internship Placement with Amnesty International in Warsaw

I did daily research and reports on Guantanamo, the “War on Terror,” and terrorism news and provided any constitutional or legal background. I did legal research on privacy, incitement, and First Amendment issues connected to online publishing of data and reviewed and critiqued circulars from the International Secretariat on the International Strategic Plan for the international meeting. I also proofread English translations and did other small administrative tasks as needed. Great placement for anyone who is interested in international human rights or NGOs. The atmosphere was collegial and relaxed.

2009 Summer Internship Placement with the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy

I had the most wonderful internship experience while studying at Collegium Civitas. The Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland was a perfect match for me because I wish to pursue a career in NGOs. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt like a team member of Akademia. I was included in projects and allowed to work independently. All the work I did at Akademia was relevant to their needs, and when I had completed my internship I felt that I accomplished a lot. I was very satisfied by the partnership between myself, Collegium Civitas, and the Academy.

2008 Summer Internship Placement with the Constitutional Tribunal

The summer I spent in Warsaw has been the highlight of my undergraduate experience. Although Warsaw, as a city, is fairly new due to the destruction of WWII, it is also full of vivid memories—memories about a long journey toward independence and freedom. My experience with the Summer Internship Program helped me meet my potential both as a Political Science student and as an individual.
